Visit legendary historic sites where the community faced off with gentrification and financial power. Peek inside vibrant community gardens and legendary tenement buildings, Tompkins Square Park, the first community-based recycling center, and the symbol of gentrification, The Christodora House. And learn about radical history from local journalist and organic historian Bill Weinberg.
The tours start at the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space, located at 155 Avenue C, between E. 9th and E. 10th St., costs $20 and is led by local residents who have witnessed the neighborhood’s activist history and thriving community spirit firsthand. The tour requires a minimum three people, and lasts for about two hours.
